DMCS questions…

Thanx for the help on B&Ppro.  While I work then on obtaining the funds
to purchase the expansion, I’ll stick to DMCS.  I do have a few questions
though about it:
        1) The other day, I unarced a song, and loaded it into DMCS.  When I
played it, there was a drum beat in it, but the score had
only a whole note where the drum beat was.  I figured that
drum beat was actually an instrument.  Q#1: How was this
                instrument made?
        2) How can I find other instruments for DMCS (ie better guitar,etc..)

16 bit audio

I am co-designer of the AD1016 digital audio system for the Amiga (SunRize
licensed it from us). I’ve been looking at a device that would provide a
subset of the big card for a substantially lower price. What do you on the
net think about a device that would allow Amigas to record high quality digital
audio (16 bit, standard sampling rates, ~90db signal to noise) without the
direct digital connections, MIDI, SMPTE, etc., of the AD1016? It would be like
a 16 bit "Perfect Sound", costing substantially less than $1000.

Mystery solved !!!

Good [whatever part of the day] !

Because the replies to my *mysterious ab20* question was rather
overwhelming (well…to me at least…) I’d like to thank everbody
by means of this message. Thanks go to :

Tony, Luke, Mike & David (both included a good example !!), A. Duncan,
Michael and of course "Tad Guy" (your name shows up quite a lot in ab20).

Unfortunately I can’t communicate with ab20 interactively, I’ll have to
use BITFTP and send a *batch file*. But what the heck, it works !!!

Thanks a million, if you’re lookin’ for me :  I’ll be diggin’ in ab20 !

Cheers,
        Arjen.

Midi Interface

I have just got a Casio CT-655 keyboard with a MIDI interface.  I want
to hook this up to my Amiga 1000, but I don’t want to permanently lose
the use of my serial port.

Is there an adapter that I can plug into the serial port that will allow
passthrough as well as MIDI output?

What software will use the MIDI to the best of it’s ability?

Remember I have an A1000 and the serial port is different to the
A500/A2000 serial port.  I also have 2M ram.

Thanks in advance,
Phil.

Address/Phone for Music-X/MicroIllusions

Please, if anyone knows the CURRENT address and/or phone number for
the manufacturer of Music-X (Micro Illusions), please send it my way!
We’ve found that the address printed on the manual is no longer
current and have found no forwarding address of phone #.

The old address is 17408 Chatsworth St., Granada Hills, CA 91344.

Midi Software – What's the best?

I just got a midi interface for my A3000 and am borrowing a friends
Yamaha DX21 keyboard.  I’m now trying to figure out what kind of midi
software I need.  I am familiar witsome of the titles of available
midi/music software for the Amiga, but I really don’t know what to get.
At present I have DMCS, Sonix, and MED 3.0, but am not terribly
impressed by their performance.  What I’d like is to simply be able to
play something on the DX21 keyboard and have the software record all the
notes so that I can then go back and edit what I’ve played and then play
it back.  DMCS seems to do the most out of these 3 programs, but it is
extremely unstable and crashes incredibly frequently.  Amazingly I’ve
found it works better on my A3000 under WB2.0 than WB1.3.  Anyway, I’ve
heard that the DR. T’s music software is some of the best.  Is this
true?  And how does it compare to Bars and Pipes, and Music-X?  Is Dr.
T’s KCS what I need?  Or is that overkill?  And if I were to get KCS,
would I then still need to buy more DR. T modules before I could really
do anything?

FTP SITE FOR LATEST MED?

The NEWEST version of MED is 3.11; aka: OctaMED1.0.. As our music
Sigop is a personal friend of the author, MED3.11 is initially
being made available EXCLUSIVELY on Exactus Information Service.
Yes, it is a subscription bbs; but we do allow access to non-
subscribers. Unfortunately MED3.11 is larger than the daily download
byte limit for non subscribers. We DO get MANY files directly from
the source nations this way, often months ahead of anyone else.
We call the other countries’ bbs systems and software authors
PERSONALLY.  +1 707-524-2548 (8 lines/rotary/2400 baud) & 524-2553
(DHST). 6 Gigabytes, 20,000+ amiga files; 1.2 GIGAbytes of NEW
amiga files being added this week; and 30 megs of NEW-NEW files
waiting for me to test and add descriptions.

Amiga + Bars & Pipes + DX7 MI

Problem: Whenever I try to drive my DX7 (mark I) from B&P, I get
MIDI DATA ERROR messages.

However: When I use Midi Playground everything is ok. Also, I have no
problems with my Mirage, ESQ-M, SPX-90, etc.

Question: Is B&P doing something that might be upsetting the DX’s
primitive (and unmodified) MIDI processing? I thought it might have something
to do with running status, but that was ok. (Just had a thought, could it be
that the data is whizzing around too fast. Sound plausible? How could it
be fixed? Apart, that is, from getting an E! board or something!)

Please, if anyone can help, I’d really appreciate it.

Perfect Sound

I borrowed a Perfect Sound digitizer from a friend and was trying to
digitize some samples off my CD player.  The only problem is that there
is so much background noise and hissing that the samples are terrible.

I tried it on my A3000, on a B2000, and tried several different sound
sources to no avail.

I remember playing with one of the original ones on my A1000 a few years
back and I dont remember having this much trouble with noise.

Is this thing broken or is this particular model just bad?  It’s the
model with one pot for gain adjust and came with v2.3 of the software.

Samples for SoundTracker/MED

Are there any archives of samples for ST/MED available by ftp?  I see
lots of "ST-XX:" samples in mods from ab20.  Are these publicly available disks
or are they libraries compiled by the authors?  Any leads would be greatly
appreciated…

Also, if anyone else is using MED3.00 to write Industrial style music
I would love to hear from you.
